I think most people are lying about being busy

I think most people are lying when they say they’re busy.

Not really lying to other people. I think we lie to ourselves about it.

I do it too.

There are days where I feel like I have absolutely no time. Like there is just too much shit going on and I couldn’t possibly fit another thing into the day.

Then somehow I spent 40 minutes on my phone doing literally nothing.

That isn’t busy.

I think a lot of the time we are just distracted. We have 15 things going at once, none of them are actually getting finished, and because our brain has been running all day we convince ourselves we were productive.

Being exhausted and being productive are not the same thing.

And “I don’t have time” is probably one of the biggest lies I tell myself.

Most of the time I do have time.

I just didn’t make it important enough.

Or I didn’t want to do it.

Or I spent the time somewhere else and don’t really want to admit that.

Obviously there are people who really are busy. Kids, jobs, school, taking care of people. Life can genuinely be a lot.

But I’m starting to think a lot of us don’t have a time problem.

We have an attention problem.
